Scenario 1: In-school classes

Art Smith Aviation Academy is unique in that it follows Alberta Education's curriculum for students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and provides an aviation program that is designed to enhance the education of its students. This is accomplished by providing experiential visits to local Air Force aviation facilities including operational flying and maintenance squadrons, air traffic control units, meteorology, and so much more. The intent of the program is to place emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math to prepare Alberta’s youth for employment in the future especially in the aerospace industry of the province. The school also strives to prepare students for a seamless transition to high school.

ASAA is also the only public school in the Cold Lake area to offer a full French Immersion program from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

The MFSS board has transitioned from a purely military to a civilian board, but maintains the same commitment to offering a science/aviation focus from a facility on the Wing. This year’s program is superior to anything offered in the area. The support we have received from our sponsors allows us to offer a model of how education should work. The overwhelming majority of military personnel, whose children attend the school, appreciate the commitment and partnership of industry to offer such a program.
