COVID-19 Notification

May 4, 2021:

We were recently informed of another case of COVID-19 connected to Art Smith Aviation Academy. We continue to work with Alberta Health Services (AHS) to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.

Out of respect for this individual and in accordance with AHS guidelines, we cannot disclose personal details. Students and staff who are considered to be close contacts of the individual have been directed to stay home and await further direction from AHS.

If you have not received a phone call, your student has not been identified as a close contact at this time and can continue to attend school.  Art Smith Aviation Academy  remains open for in-person learning with the current protocols that are in place for students and staff. Our custodians will be conducting enhanced cleaning protocols of the school, focusing on areas where the individual was present, along with our continued attention on high touch areas and surfaces throughout the school.

We remind parents/guardians of students, as well as staff, to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Please remember to complete the COVID-19 Alberta Health Daily Checklist each day prior to sending your child to school.  If your child has any of the symptoms on the checklist, please keep them at home and fill out the Alberta Health Services COVID-19 online self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.

If your child is tested for COVID-19 and the test result is positive, please contact the school as soon as possible so we can begin the process of identifying close contacts and informing them of the need to quarantine.

April 29, 2021:

We have been informed of additional cases of COVID-19 connected to Art Smith Aviation Academy. Alberta Health Services has notified us that the school is considered to be in an outbreak. An outbreak is reported when five or more cases are confirmed in an investigation, where the disease could have been acquired or transmitted in the school.

As we shared earlier this week, AHS has assigned an EI Number to the school that should be used by anyone who has been identified as a close contact when they book an appointment to be tested for COVID-19. This will assist with contact tracing. The EI Number for Art Smith Aviation Academy is 2021-5160.

We know this information may be upsetting for some of you and your children may have questions about what is happening.  AHS has developed COVID-19 information for young kids and students to help answer children’s questions. We have also shared additional resources on the NLPS website. If you, or anyone in your family, needs someone to talk to, the Mental Health Help Line is available 24/7 at 1-877-303-2642.

We will continue to provide additional information to parents/guardians as it becomes available. For further information regarding COVID-19, please visit COVID-19 info for Albertans.
